Due to scheduling conflicts, our Winter Solstice celebration was a bit late this year, and earlier rain made for a slightly muddy event, but we didn’t let that stop us!
It wasn’t very atmospheric, but since rain was in the forecast, I set up my modern 10′ x 10′ pop-up fly to make sure there was some dry space.
I also set up my 8’x 8′ oilskin tarp from Tentsmiths (which I think added to the ambiance of the event), but fortunately blue skies made an appearance!
Despite the wet, we got a fire going and enjoyed a mix of pre-prepared food and dishes cooked over the coals.
If anyone went away hungry, it was their own fault!
Folks did a little axe-throwing:
Once again, we did a white elephant gift exchange, and folks really went all out with gifts! In the mix were two hoods in the style of the skjoldehamn hood, a pair of leather wool-lined mittens, a hnefatafl set that included a king piece carved from antler and a leather board and pouch, a small cast iron pot, and a Middle-earth atlas. There was a bit of stealing, but again, everyone was still friendly enough to get together for a group picture after we were done!
